This deceptively small map of Paris puts most guidebooks to shame. Pocket Pilots city map/guides are shirt-pocket sized, easy-to-fold, laminated, easy to read, and packed to bursting with useful information, including how to use/navigate the public transit system, a brief and pithy guide to the citys most popular points of interest, a neighborhood-by-neighborhood description of the city, listings of parks, cultural events, and hot spots, notes on local cuisine, and useful phrases - and, above all, a street map featuring magnifications of prime areas.

Customer Rating: Summary: A nice companion Comment: The map was a nice help for our visit. I really liked them for the size. It fits right in your back pocket. Plus for being pulled in and out plus being sat on it hold up pretty well.
I really don't remember streets missing or landmarks in the wrong areas. Sometimes it hard to find things but that is more due to the streets looking like spaghetti.
The biggest problem is the streets of Paris, not the map, are all over the place so you spend more time trying to figure out where your street is and which way you need to turn.
For a few $ before you leave it is worth the investment.
Customer Rating: Summary: Packet with information if you have good eyes Comment: This little map has tons of information, but may be difficult to read for those who are far-sighted. If you just want to carry a map of Paris and the Metro, it is great. If you need a guidebook too and it has good maps then perhaps you won't need this map. For those days I just want to wonder to places the guidebooks don't tell you about, this little foldable map fits great in you pocket or purse.
Customer Rating: Summary: Excellent Pocket Size Map of Paris Comment: We purchased both the Paris and London versions for a recent trip, and both were excellent. The maps were especially good for determining subway (Tube, Metro, RER) connections, which are by the far the easist way of getting around. We had other maps, but the Pocket Pilot was the one we always wound up using. Highly recommend.
Customer Rating: Summary: Good for a casual repeat visit to Paris Comment: On my first trip to Paris in 2003, I armed myself with three different guides for the City of Light: Rick Steves (read before I left), pages torn from Let's Go, and a portable Eyewitness Top 10 (good pocket-friendly hands-on guide). The information from these sources helped make my vacation both memorable and enjoyable. But on my less-ambitious three-night second visit, I only wanted a concise, durable, and most of all portable guidebook. The Pocket-Pilot was perfect in that regard.
The main purpose of my European journey this time around was to do the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage in Spain. But I booked my round-trip ticket in and out of Paris because I had such a great time there on my initial visit. After finishing the Camino, my plan was to hit Paris and relax at various cafes, do some shopping, visit a couple sites I'd missed the first time around, and get to CDG airport for my flight home. And since I had to carry whatever Paris guide I chose around Spain for forty days in my backpack, the diminutive and laminated Pocket Pilot was a no-brainer.
The "Pocket Pilot" guide folds up to about the size of a small, thin travel wallet, and fits nicely into a breast pocket. The lamination enabled it to brush off spills, stay together after multiple foldings and unfoldings, and survive going in and out of my pockets. As for useful information, the Pocket Pilot is packed with it (a bit too packed, however). One side contains a detailed map of Paris, a map of the RATP subway system, and a blurb about Public Transport. The other side is broken down into five sections: "TopSights," with a picture and a paragraph of info about must-see attractions; "Quarters," with map and info about some of the city's Arrondissements and an Airport Access diagram; "Facts," like Useful Phrases, Help (fire and police info), and Tourist Information; "Listings," with sections devoted to topics such as Festivals and Festivities; and "Daytrips," with thumbnail pictures and blurbs about a couple of nearby attractions (Versailles, Parc Asterix, etc.). There's also a smaller map of Paris and the surrounding suburbs.
Due to my laid-back approach to Paris this time around, I only used certain portions of the Pocket Pilot. The most important features to me were the RATP subway map, the detailed city map, the "Useful Phrases" subsection (which should be larger, at the expense of, say, the useless City Statistics box. The French like it when you at least try to speak their language, so it's important to master some basic phrases or at least have them on hand), and the Airport Access map. All of these tools enabled me to get around Paris, order food and drink, find a couple of key sites, and choose the best way to make it to CDG Airport on time (the shuttle bus from Opera Garnier - costs about 9 Euros and takes around an hour).
If you're planning your first trip to Paris and have a big to-do list, I'd recommend using Rick Steves' Paris guide for pre-trip research and the Eyewitness Top 10 Paris guide for day-to-day hands-on usage. You'll appreciate the in-depth site information, accommodation recommendations, and various maps that they offer (I remembered Mr. Steves' advice about the Rue Cler area, and had a good experience staying, eating, and shopping there this time around). But if you've been to Paris before and simply want to experience it in a relaxed manner, then the Pocket Pilot will do just fine.
